What's inside Problem Guides
This hub is the troubleshooting layer of MySRD. The cluster hubs explain how each grant works. These guides start from the assumption that you already followed the normal process and something still went wrong. Each one takes a single failure, names the causes in the order they actually occur, and tells you which ones you can fix yourself.
The people who get the most out of this section are SRD R370 beneficiaries whose status reads Approved while no money has arrived, applicants whose status has not moved off Pending in months, anyone who changed cellphone networks and lost access to the number on their file, and family members trying to check a status for a parent who cannot use the portal. If your problem is a status message you do not recognise, read the decline reasons guide in Appeals and Declines first, then come back here.
Work through problems in the right order
Payment problems have an order. Check the settlement window before anything else. SASSA releases SRD R370 in batches from around the 24th of each month, and the money can take two to three working days to land after the release date. Most missing payments are not missing at all. They are early.
If the window has passed, check your banking details on srd.sassa.gov.za. A closed account, a changed account number, or a name that does not match the ID on the file will hold the payment. After that, check whether the payment channel itself changed. Postbank now issues the black SASSA card that replaced the older Gold card, and a card that has not been swapped can leave money sitting where you are not looking for it.
Only after those three checks is it worth calling 0800 60 10 11. The call is free from any network. Have your 13-digit ID number ready and ask which specific verification step is incomplete, rather than asking why you were not paid. The agent can see the step. They cannot always see the reason unless you ask for it.
Problems you cannot fix from the portal
Two problems need a different office. If your status says identity verification failed, the record that is wrong sits at Home Affairs, not at SASSA. Fix the ID record first, keep the reference number, then reopen the SASSA file. Nothing you do on the SRD portal will clear that block while the underlying record is still wrong.
If your decline says an alternative income source was identified, SASSA found a deposit above the R624 monthly means test in your bank account or in a government record. Sometimes that deposit was real income. Often it was a family transfer, a refund, or a once-off payment that the automated check read as earnings. Either way the fix is an appeal with evidence, filed within 90 days of the decline, and each declined month is appealed on its own.
Frequently asked questions
My status says Approved but I have no money. What now?
Wait two to three working days after your release date, then check your banking details on srd.sassa.gov.za. If both are fine, call 0800 60 10 11 with your ID and ask which verification step is incomplete.
How long can a status stay on Pending?
Automated checks normally clear in 5 to 10 business days. Past that, something is blocking it, usually an ID mismatch with Home Affairs or an unresolved bank validation. Call 0800 60 10 11 rather than waiting longer.
I lost the SIM linked to my SRD application. Can I still check?
You need the registered number to receive the OTP. Update the cellphone number on your file through srd.sassa.gov.za, or call 0800 60 10 11 to have the change made against your ID.
Can I check a SASSA status for my mother?
Yes, with her ID number and access to her registered cellphone for the OTP. For anything beyond a status read, such as changing banking details, SASSA requires written authority from the beneficiary.
Will I get backpay for months I was approved but not paid?
Approved months that were never paid are recoverable. Months that were declined are only recoverable if you appeal within 90 days and the appeal succeeds.
What happens to my SRD when I start working?
If your income goes above R624 in a month, that month is declined. You do not need to reapply. Once your income drops back below R624, eligibility usually returns the following month.
Can I check my status without my ID document?
You need the ID number, not the physical document. If you do not know the number, you cannot check the status, and Home Affairs is the place to recover it.
