Privacy Policy
This privacy policy explains how MySRD handles information when you visit this website. Most of this site is ordinary reading material and asks you for nothing. The one exception is the SRD status checker on the home page, which needs two details from you. This policy explains what happens to them.
The SRD status checker
The status checker on our home page asks for two things: your South African ID number and the cellphone number you used when you applied for SRD R370. We need both because SASSA needs both to find your record.
When you press Check Status, those two details are passed straight to SASSA’s official SRD status service and the answer is shown back to you. We do not save them. There is no database behind this website and no account for you to have. Once the answer is on your screen, we are not holding your ID number or your cellphone number anywhere.
We keep short-lived technical logs so we can tell when the service breaks. Those logs record that a check happened and whether SASSA answered, and they may contain a fragment of SASSA’s reply. They are used for fixing faults, nothing else.
What we never ask for
We will never ask for your banking PIN, your password, your card number or a one-time PIN (OTP). We do not need them and they will never help a status check. Anyone who asks you for those while claiming to be this site is a scammer. We also cannot apply, appeal or change your banking details for you. Only SASSA can do that.
Standard server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider records standard server access logs when your browser requests a page. These typically include the requested URL, an approximate location derived from your IP address, your browser type, and the time of the request. These logs are used to keep the site online and to diagnose technical issues. We do not use them to identify you.
Cookies
This site does not set any tracking or advertising cookies. If we add strictly necessary cookies in the future (for example, to remember a language choice), we will list them here and they will not be used for advertising.
Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to measure aggregate traffic (which articles are read most, which countries visitors come from) so we can decide which topics to update first. Any such analytics are configured to use anonymised data and no cross-site tracking. If we add analytics, we will name the provider here.
Emails you send us
If you email us at [email protected] to report a correction or ask an editorial question, we keep the email so we can reply and fix the article. If you accidentally send personal information (ID number, banking details, or a copy of your ID document), we will delete it and reply asking you to contact SASSA directly on 0800 60 10 11.
Your POPIA rights
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, you can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Because the status checker does not save what you type, there is normally nothing for us to hand over or delete. If you have emailed us and want that email deleted, tell us and we will delete it.
External links and third parties
We link to official SASSA and South African government websites so you can verify facts. Those sites have their own privacy policies and we are not responsible for how they handle your information.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Updated" date at the top of this page.
