SRD R370 Grant

Everything about the R370 Social Relief of Distress grant: applications, monthly status checks, payment dates, decline fixes, and the extension to March 2027.

The Social Relief of Distress (SRD) R370 grant is the successor to the COVID-19 R350 relief grant. It pays R370 per month to unemployed South African adults, permanent residents, and specified refugees who pass the monthly means test. The grant was extended to March 2027 by the Minister of Social Development in 2026, so beneficiaries continue to receive monthly re-verification. Unlike permanent grants, SRD status can change from month to month based on income checks, UIF cross-references, and banking-detail validations. This section explains every part of the SRD flow: how to apply on srd.sassa.gov.za, how to interpret each status message (approved, pending, declined, referred, cancelled), how to update banking details, how to file the 90-day ITSAA appeal when a month is declined, and how the "you got a job" and "alternative income identified" declines work. If your SRD status just changed from approved to declined without warning, start with the decline-reasons guide before doing anything else.
